Many health care plans will offer coverage for weight loss programs if there are criteria such as BMI >30 or >25 with other serious health conditions. Weight loss clinics and primary care clinics often assist the patients to utilize these benefits.

Additionally, I found that while working in primary care and the weight loss industry that time and money (even co-pays each week) are the primary reasons why patients/clients fail to start, finish or maintain their weight loss or health goals.

Who am I?
My name is Christine Pereira and as far back as I can remember I was a caretaker and loved physical activity!
What do I do?
Right now I am a family nurse practitioner, and I have been in the medical field for over 25 years. Throughout my career, I have seen the effects of poor health, poor physical conditioning, and being overweight. I have had to teach people how to give themselves injections. I have dressed wounds of limbs that were amputated because of complications. I have witnessed the fear of death as I administered medication for a heart attack. I have seen tears well up and spill over as people described the shame and embarrassment about their size and physical appearance. I have witnessed anger and hopelessness about ever regaining any sort of good health.
I have also witnessed joy and laughter as someone tells me that they have walked the block, they have run in their first 5K, they wore a favorite dress, that blood pressure medication was cut in half, and that blood sugars were now less than 100 milligrams per deciliter.
Most recently I have spent over ten years with a focus on wellness and health in the working adult population, and it certainly rings true: The BEST exercise and eating plan is the one that you will DO.
Therefore, I wanted to compile a book about the programs that I am familiar with, and that I have seen work. It is my opinion that every diet will work for someone, but that they won’t work for everyone. And it’s the same for movement plans. If you don’t like to run, then a 5K training program won’t entice you to incorporate that into your life. But perhaps you loved to jump on a trampoline or you were a gymnast as a child, then rebounding may be the way to go for you. Yes, an adult can hop on a trampoline for fun and get health benefits from it! Maybe you were a pitcher for baseball or softball. Find your glove and ball and see how happy you become.
