As you enter mid-life there may be a sense of imbalance, disconnection, disappointment, and disillusionment with your life circumstances although the outward appearance of your life may not have changed. You may begin to question your choices, and wonder if you can stay where you are for the rest of your life; which appears much shorter now. If this is you and you are wondering where to begin making changes, read my Second Chance at Health-Learn to Love Active Living and Clean Eating book. I can guide you to make healthy eating plan and movement plan choices that can help you through your mid-life re-evaluation.

Mid-Life Crisis

There has been much written about human growth and development, both physiologically, emotionally and spiritually. This period of life is not unexpected. Just as it is expected that two-year old’s and teenager’s will progress through a time of turmoil, so can we expect some level of turmoil as mid-lifer’s. As we look back, notice how you accepted and assisted your children through their growth, now it’s your turn, as this is the time that we must accept and assist ourselves through our own growth spurt.

The word crisis has many meanings, it can mean a time of intense difficulty, trouble or danger, it can mean a time when a difficult or important decision must be made, or it can mean a turning point! In mid-life these different meanings will all have a place during this period, however, it is up to YOU if you want this time to be a negative time or a positive time.

Or Mid-Life Re-Evaluation?

This IS the time to re-evaluate, this IS the time to make necessary changes, this IS the time to find your purpose in life. We have raised children (if not yours, then any emotional children you had), we have progressed through our chosen careers, and we have invested our lives into our spouses….now is the time for US to continue to grow and make our mark on the world with our gifts.

Re-evaluation of ourselves does not have to be a negative exercise, indeed it can be a time of true liberation. For me, I buried myself under so many layers it has taken me over a year to even acknowledge that I am. I am the mom, the wife, the nurse, the runner, the student, the teacher, the nurse practitioner. Yes, I am all of those, but who am I without those titles? That was the million-dollar question that had to be answered. After countless books, podcasts, body and soul searching, I have found that I am ALL those things and MORE! I didn’t lose any of those identities, I just discovered the power behind all of them was ME, I was always there! I am powerful, I am loving, I am persistent, I am caring, I am nurturing, I am consistent, I am intelligent, I am intuitive.

We Are Not Lost

Do you see all of those “I ams” behind my titles? I was never LOST!  Now that I have time I can spend time on rebuilding my I AM’s. I can begin using them for my secondary purpose, I can hone those parts in me that promote my new purpose.

One of the most interesting skills that I have learned is how to use the body feelings to help identify true feelings. Over time many  have become very adept at hiding emotions, but learning to pay attention to the sensations in your body can be helpful. Being in tune with these sensations help because they are a true reflection of emotions. Our minds may say one thing, but our bodies reveal another truth. For example, the feelings in the pit of your stomach or in the center of your chest can be main signs that something is awry. It may be described as something between heart pain and nausea, it can feel like a twinge or an ache, but either way, let it tell you when something is amiss.  If your mind is telling you one thing, but your body another, your body sensation reflects the most truth. Truth will always set you free, so use this time of “crisis” to guide you to your purpose.

I do not recommend changing the circumstances of your life at this time of unrest! What I do recommend is discovering your secondary purpose, attending to your emerging feelings and using this time of unrest to do make a positive change in your life.

Focus Your Energy

I recommend using this time and energy  to focus on pursuing a second chance for body health! Body health includes your mind, your physical body and your spirit! Take time to refocus, take time to take care of yourself so that you can enter this very important time in your life as healthy as possible, free of pains, free of medicines and more joy and vitality!
